Dr. Chukwumere Nwogu
Dr. Chukwumere Nwogu (MD PhD FACS) is a Thoracic Surgical Oncologist
and Cancer Epidemiologist. He received his basic medical education at the
University of Nigeria College of Medicine, Enugu; General Surgical Residency
training at Flushing Hospital/Albert Einstein Hospital/ Harvard Medical School,
Boston; and Cancer PrevCollege of Medicine, New York; Cardiothoracic Surgery
Residency at the University of Massachusetts, Worcester; Thoracic Surgical
Oncology Fellowship at the Brigham & Women’s ention and Pathology Doctorate
degree at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo.
He is a Professor of Surgery and Oncology at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute
and at SUNY, Buffalo. He is extremely passionate about cancer care in resource
limited environments with a focus on Nigeria and this passion culminated into the
establishment of Lakeshore Cancer Center, Nigeria’s first private healthcare
facility solely dedicated to cancer screening, prevention and treatment, in 2014.
He has been involved in numerous cancer screening missions, awareness
campaigns and professional education programs all over Nigeria.
Paul Onwuanibe
Paul Onwuanibe (BSc. MSc ED MBA) began his career in the ‘built
environment’ with a formal education in Architecture, Property Development and
Construction Management, together with an MBA from the London Business
School. Paul has over 20 years in the professional experience of design and
execution of projects in Africa, USA and Europe. He served as Development Director with Beacon Housing, in UK.
Paul was the Executive with responsibility for the Property and Logistics team of
Regus Plc during its rapid expansion years, which oversaw the opening of 190 business centres globally. His is now running Landmark Group – the company which he founded in 1997 and now successfully operates from offices across five
continents.
Fabia Ogunmekan
Fabia Ogunmekan (LLB BL MSc.) is a Lawyer and Corporate Executive with 19 years’ experience working in the fields of law and development across Corporate Organizations and Non-profits in the healthcare, gender and entrepreneurship sectors. She holds a Master of Science (MSc) in Non-profit Management from the Cass Business School, City University
London (2016), BL (2001) from the Nigerian Law School and Bachelor of Laws degree
(LLB) from the University College London (1998). She has attended a number of capacity
building courses in the areas of Law, Leadership, Corporate Social Responsibility and
Management and is a 2008 Alumnus of the Lagos Business School’s Senior Management
Programme.
She has worked with the Tony Elumelu Foundation as Alumni Engagement Manager and Women in Successful Careers (WISCAR), a not for profit organization focused on capacity
development for professional women in March 2018 as Executive Secretary. In her role at
WISCAR she is responsible for strategy execution, programme development and oversight, brokering partnerships, fundraising and stakeholder management. She also sits on the Boards of Montgomery Security Vaults and The Sanitaid Foundation. She is a facilitator at the Lagos
Business School’s Non-profit Leadership and Management Programme.
Nneka Okekearu
Nneka Okekearu (BSc. MBA) heads Gender and is Deputy Director at the Enterprise Development Centre of the Pan Atlantic University. She has a 1st degree in Banking and Finance, and MBA and is currently doing a doctorate in entrepreneurship with SMC University. She started her career as an audit trainee at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation before going into the banking industry as a pioneer staff of the then Standard Trust Bank now UBA. Her passion for impact led her to the Enterprise Development Centre. In the last decade plus she has consulted and trained for numerous SMEs across various sectors.
Nneka sits on the board of Assembly hub a catalytic platform aimed at strengthening the capacities of creative entrepreneurs. She also sits on the the board of Recycle Point an award winning recycling social enterprise focused on the climate and environment. An avid believer in mentoring as a tool for development she also is on the Mentoring Committee of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria. A lover of Arts and Music Nneka also sits on the Governing Board of the Yemisi Shyllon Museum for Art. Nneka is a World Bank Master Trainer and Assessor, certified Leadership trainer from the Centre for Creative Leadership US, Global Mentor with the Michigan State University. Her passion lies in helping for profit and social enterprises clarify their Position, Profits, Processes. She is married to Cj a serial entrepreneur and has 2 lovely children.
Dr. Abimbola Fapohunda
Dr. Abimbola Fapohunda (DrPH MPH MS) is a trained epidemiologist and health educator with over 19 years’ experience of running her consulting company and being in public health. She teaches part-time at the Department of Africana Studies, University of Pittsburgh and has conducted several studies among African Americans, Africans in the Diaspora and on the African Continent. The focus of her current research is African immigrants and Refugees Experience during COVID-19 pandemic, she conducted a survey to explore factors that contribute to a healthy community for Black immigrants. She is also conducting research abroad training healthcare practitioners on cancer awareness. In February 2019, Dr. Fapohunda and Lakeshore Cancer Center in Lagos, Nigeria completed four training workshops on cancer awareness for healthcare practitioners.
She was the Principal Investigator (PI) on an immigrant study that examines Arab Americans’ Perceptions of Healthy Eating and Physical Activity. She was also the Co-PI on the study that investigates African Immigrants’ Perceptions and Practices around Healthy Eating and Physical Activity through photovoice; and utilizing her graduate training in food, nutrition, and food hygiene, she has conducted health and nutrition workshops for a diverse group of community-based organizations in Greater Pittsburgh. She is the Co-PI on the study that seeks to explore and understand the beliefs, perceptions and practices of young adult offspring of African immigrants regarding what healthy eating and health activity is in the context of their environment and culture.
She was awarded funding by the University’s Clinical Translational Science Institute (CTSI) to collaborate with the Redeem Christian Church of God in Pittsburgh, PA and the African Cultural and Resource Center in Silver Springs, MD on developing a research plan for prevention of obesity among African Immigrants Resident in Allegheny County, PA and Montgomery County, MD, using a Community-based Participatory Research approach.
Dr. Abimbola Fapohunda has spent the past 20 years as an independent consultant, conducting needs assessments and program evaluation on the effectiveness of numerous community-based initiatives related to health disparities in both behavioural and physical health, including nutrition, smoking cessation, HIV/AIDS and oral health. She has also contracted for several years with the Graduate School of Public Health (GSPH), Center for Public Health Practice, University of Pittsburgh, to conduct program evaluation through their Public Health Training Center (PHTC) as part of the role she held for two years in the Graduate School of Public Health – Visiting Assistant Professor of Behavioural and Community Health Sciences. She currently teaches three courses – Being Human in the Age of COVID-19, African American Health Issues and Health in the African Diaspora at the Department of Africana Studies, University of Pittsburgh.
She was involved in a community-based evaluation project focusing on disparities in academic achievement among minorities and she served as a member of the Research Advisory Committee of the Center for Family Excellence’s Racial Achievement Gaps educational justice project. She is also a board of director for the East Liberty Family Health Center – Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) and the president of Pittsburgh Area African Professionals Organization (PAAPO.
Mr. Banji Fatoba
Mr. Banji Fatoba (LLB. BL.) is a highly accomplished commercial/corporate legal and business compliance specialist with a 13-year impressive track record in corporate governance application, investment banking, capital raising, stakeholder engagement,
regulatory compliance, policy formulation and advocacy, all gained from working with leading institutions in Europe, Africa, Middle East and North America. He obtained his Bachelors of Law degree from the University of Lagos in 2006 and graduated from Nigerian Law School,
Abuja in 2007. He currently serves as the Head Legal, Regulatory and Compliance Officer at CSL Capital (UK) Ltd and affiliates companies such as FCMB Asset Management Limited and CSL Limited (all of which are members of the FCMB Group). In this role, he has continued to exhibit strong leadership, analytical and communication skills, resulting in several key achievements such as securing and overseeing million-dollar successful bids, mutual funds and capital investments for several multinational corporations. Over the course of his legal career, Mr. Banji Fatoba has built an extensive global network and a considerably high professional reputation amongst institutional investors and regulators by consistently leading high performing teams. In tandem with his current legal management role, Mr. Fatoba is also pursuing a Masters degree in Finance & Finance Law at the University of London.
Mr. Chuka Eseka
Mr. Eseka (BSc.) is an Investment Banker with extensive experience covering merchant and investment banking activities. He is a graduate of Accounting from the University of Lagos, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria. He is also an authorized dealer of the Nigerian Stock Exchange.
Mr. Eseka has managed the emergence of Vetiva into one of the most respected, innovative and efficient investment banks in Nigeria. Mr. Eseka is especially formidable in deal origination, structuring and execution and is vastly experienced in corporate restructuring/repositioning as well as privatization advisory structures; having been involved in a number of significant transactions in the financial services and real sectors of the Nigerian economy.
He is regarded as one of the foremost investment bankers in Nigeria today with broad complimentary competences covering financial, operational and legal related issued in the real sectors of the Nigerian economy over the past 25 years.
Eng. David C. Ifezulike
Eng. David C. Ifezulike (BSc. MSc. DIC) is a seasoned management professional and petroleum engineer with over 25 years of experience in management and corporate governance, spanning the oil & gas, finance, industrial manufacturing and technical industries. He served as the Chairman of the Board of NESTLE FOODS NIGERIA PLC, the industry giant in manufacturing, marketing and distribution of food products. His contributions to Nestle Group operations, especially in Nigeria are substantial. He acquired 10 years international experience working in the company’s establishments in Malaysia, Zimbabwe, and Head Office in Switzerland, Ghana and Nigeria in Manufacturing, Production and Technical areas. He was actively involved with the effort to locally source and replace imported raw materials as much as possible without compromising quality. He rose to the position of Executive Director – Industrial Development in April 2003, and ultimately was appointed as Board Chairman in May 2013.
On a Shell-BP Scholarship, he studied in University of Manchester, UK and obtained a B.Sc. in
Mechanical Engineering. He also holds an M.Sc. in Petroleum Engineering from Imperial College, London, UK as well as an M.Sc. – DIC in Management Science from same Imperial
College London. He is a member of the Institute of Food Science and Technology and Member of Nigerian Institute of Management. He is currently the Managing Director of AfricaFirst Ltd, a Management Consultancy that focuses on Process Improvement Concepts, and ‘Lean Thinking’.
Dr. Chinenye Iwuji
Dr. Chinenye Iwuji (BM BSc MRCP MSc PhD) is a consultant Medical Oncologist working at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. She qualified from Southampton Medical School in 2003. She also holds a degree in Physiology from University of Dundee. Her post-graduate qualifications include a Masters Degree in Oncology (University of Nottingham) and a PhD (University of Leicester), following her research investigating the use of curcumin in the treatment of colorectal cancer. She specialises in Neuroendocrine Tumours, Hepatobiliary and Colorectal Cancers. She is also the Undergraduate Cancer Care Block lead for the University of Leicester Medical School and holds the position of honorary senior lecturer.
Her global health interest lies particularly in developing oncology services in Nigeria. She works with Africa Partners Medical and Jos University Teaching Hospital, Nigeria to teach oncology and communication skills in their continuing medical education programme. She is also a member of the steering committee for the Royal Society of Medicine’s Global Cancer Care Programme.
She is currently the President of the British Nigerian Oncology Group (BNOG). The British Nigerian Oncology Group is an organisation comprised of Nigerian Oncologists working in the United Kingdom who have a vision to collaborate with healthcare professionals in Nigeria in order to improve outcomes for cancer patients in Nigeria. This will be achieved by participation in education, research and outreach programs.
Dr. Mutiu Jimoh
Dr. Mutiu Jimoh was born in Nigeria where he received his degree in Medicine from Olabisi Onabanjo University in Ogun State, South-Western Nigeria. He joined the University College Hospital Ibadan in 2008 for his Post-graduate training. There, he completed his residency fellowship training in Radiation/Clinical Oncology.
He is a Member of the America Society for Clinical Oncology; is Board certified in Clinical/Radiation Oncology by the West Africa College of Surgeons.
He has special interests in the treatment of Head & Neck, Breast, Gastrointestinal & Gynaecological oncology sub-specialties.
He currently practices as a Consultant Clinical/Radiation Oncologist at Lakeshore Cancer Center in Victoria Island.
Dr. Oge Ilegbune
Dr. Oge Ilegbune (MBBS ARCGP HMP) currently works as the Medical Director for Lakeshore Cancer Center, she is keenly focused on spearheading the eradication of cancer in Nigeria, and has immense passion and enthusiasm in her advocacy.
She is a graduate from the University of Nigeria Medical school in Enugu. After completing her housemanship and National Youth Service, she left the shores of Nigeria for the United
Kingdom in 2000 where she went on to complete her Residency in General Practice becoming a qualified General Practitioner and an associate member of the Royal College of
General Practitioners of the UK. She is a member of the BMA and GMC and worked as a General Practitioner for 8 years in Primary Care, where prevention is an integral part of healthcare management.
In September 2014, Dr. Ilegbune returned to Nigeria and now resides in Lagos with her
husband and two children. She works in General practice focusing screening and
preventative measures, primarily in regards to cancer care at the Lakeshore Cancer Center in Lagos, Nigeria.
Bindiya Sadarangani
Bindiya Sadarangani (BSc. MSc. HMP) has worked at Lakeshore Cancer Center, Lagos
since its opening 8 years ago. She is the Center Director and is in charge of overall administrative operations of the hospital. She also heads the Research Department.
Bindiya was born and bred in Nigeria and holds a Bachelor of Science in Toxicology at the
University of Toronto with a minor in Economics, immediately followed by a Master’s of
Science in Pharmacology focused in Clinical Neuroscience.
Over the years, she took on a number of project management roles including a multi-year
tenure at the Center of Addiction and Mental Health, in Toronto, Canada, where she planned and executed a large-scale research project. She has also worked in the business setting in Nigeria serving in both marketing and management roles.
After several years abroad, she decided to permanently return home to Nigeria and work within the healthcare industry bringing in the Western Perspective. Bindiya’s passion for improving healthcare in Nigeria, her previous experience in clinical research along with her
practical business knowledge and uncanny troubleshooting skills, have enabled her to excel
in her dual role as Center Director and Clinical Research Coordinator at Lakeshore Cancer
Center.
Dr. Laz Ude Eze
Dr. Laz Ude Eze (MBBS MPH) is a public health physician with over 12 years cumulative experience in sustainable health development. He has excellent expertise in health systems strengthening, health policy advocacy, health communications, health financing and health data management.
Dr. Eze is the Founder/CEO of Talk Health Real Media Limited – publishers of TalkHealth9ja.com (Nigeria’s 1st Pidgin English Health Blog) and producer of TalkingHealthwithDrLaz – a weekly health program on Africa Independent Television (AIT). He is also the Founder of Testrogen Innovation Hub in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State and the Convener of the #MakeOurHospitalWork Campaign – a group of over 800 Nigerian citizens leading a community-based advocacy for the strengthening of health care systems to deliver quality health care services to the people.
He is an alumnus of the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, where he obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) degree and graduated with Medical Students’ Prize. He had his postgraduate studies at the University of Kentucky, United States where he obtained a Masters of Public Health (MPH) degree – Health Policy and Management concentration and a Graduate Certificate in Global Health with Distinctions and many prizes.
Between September 2017 and March 2020, he served as the pioneer Executive Director of the Pink Oak Cancer Trust – Nigeria’s First Cancer Treatment Fund. Dr. Eze is the Secretary of the National Advocates for Health; a Member of the Technical Advisory Group to the Legislative Network on Universal Health Coverage (LNUHC) and the Nigeria Country Coordinator of the West African Network of Emerging Leaders in Health Policy and Systems (WANEL). He also sits on the board of many non-profit organisations. In 2015, he was named among the top ten most influential young Nigerians in Policy by Y!Naija newspaper, in recognition of the successful advocacy he co-championed that helped in enactment of 3 major health policy laws in the country – the National Health Act 2014, Violence against Persons Prohibition Act 2015 and the Tobacco Control Act 2015.
Dr. Eze is also a community and political leader, a strong promoter of good governance and sustainable national development. He is married with three children.
